Protein Packed Oatmeal

Honestly, oatmeal gets such a bad rep. Most people I talk to are convinced that it is boring, bland, and tastes like dirt. Even though it kills me when people have a bad opinion on it, I was definitely guilty of thinking that at one point. Before I started eating oatmeal frequently two years ago, I thought it was the most boring breakfast item on the face of the planet. Now, i’m a total oatmeal fanatic. You can use oats for EVERYTHING. They are probably my #1 pantry staple. Oats are just so easily manipulated. You can use oats for breading, to make oat flour, or even make your own granola (have I convinced you they’re awesome yet?)
This recipe is protein packed which will keep you full for hours, and is a great post workout meal. I use this basic oat recipe at least three times a week. It’s so versatile and a crowd pleaser for even the pickiest eaters.
Even though this looks like a bowl of fruit I promise there is oats under there! ^ The toppings are the best part.
Protein Packed Oatmeal Base
Yields: 1
serving of oatmeal
- 1/2 cup of oats
- 1/3 cup + 2 tbsps almond milk
- 6 tbsps of liquid egg whites (2 egg whites)
- 1/2 scoop whey protein
- 1 tbsp stevia
- flavor extracts (optional)
Combine the ingredients above in a bowl, and mix evenly. Once everything is stirred together, microwave for 1 minute. Once the minute is up, take them out and stir so that the oatmeal fluffs up. Last, top with anything at all 🙂
To change the flavor of this oatmeal base, I add a different protein powder, and different flavor extracts. My favorite combo to date is vanilla icecream protein with butterscotch extract.
